Run Escapes 13 | Currumbin
From 21st to 24th November, we had the privilege of hosting another unforgettable retreat, this time at the stunning NUVE Daybreak in Currumbin.
This beautiful house, perched high above Elephant Rock, offered breathtaking views of the ocean and surrounding hinterland. The sound of waves crashing on the shore and the gentle sea breeze provided the perfect backdrop for a wonderful weekend filled with new experiences.
Meet the Team
Our wonderful team for the weekend included Jacqui, the founder. Mon, our ever-grounded mindfulness guide. Maddie, our talented photographer, capturing the magic of the retreat from behind the lens. Bec, our operations guru, who kept everything running smoothly as our timekeeper and logistical mastermind and Saffron, our warm and encouraging yoga instructor. Together, we created a safe and supportive environment for our guests to escape, explore and experience.
Day 1: A Warm Welcome
Our guests arrived throughout the afternoon, greeted with a warm welcome and a tour of the incredible NUVE Daybreak house. The views from the balcony were nothing short of spectacular, and everyone was eager to settle in and make themselves at home.
As the evening drew near, we gathered around the dinner table for our first meal together - a comforting sweet potato curry with homemade naan bread. Jacqui’s delicious meal set the perfect tone for a relaxing and nourishing start to the weekend.
After dinner, the theme for the evening was Curiosity - an invitation to approach the weekend with an open mind. We spent time getting to know each other through fun icebreakers, sparking plenty of laughter and connection. It was clear from the start that this group was special, with each person bringing their own unique energy and wisdom.
The evening continued with a breathing workshop led by Mon, introducing us to simple yet powerful techniques for calming the mind and connecting with the present moment. This was followed by a journaling session, where guests reflected on their intentions for the weekend and set personal goals. By the time we wrapped up, the sun had set, and everyone felt centred and ready for rest. We went to bed early, eager for the adventures ahead.
Day 2: Embracing Beginner’s Mind
The second day greeted us with a steady downpour—a weather forecast that required a shift in plans. But as we all know, a little rain never hurt anyone! The theme of the day, Beginner’s Mind, invited us to see the world with fresh eyes and a sense of wonder, which felt especially fitting as we adapted to the unexpected.
We woke to the sound of rain tapping on the windows and tin roof. The group gathered in the main lounge, sipping coffee and gazing out at the grey skies, hoping for a break in the weather. When it didn’t come, we embraced flexibility, splitting into smaller groups to accommodate everyone’s preferences and abilities for the morning run.
Afterwards, we returned home soaked but smiling, welcomed by the comforting aroma of a warm breakfast. A beautiful spread of fresh fruit, yoghurt, granola, eggs, and avocado toast awaited us - just the fuel we needed to recharge. Laughter filled the room as we shared stories from the run, the rain only adding to the camaraderie.
With the rain still falling, we swapped our planned surf session for cosy indoor activities. Guests spent the morning playing board games, reading, and chatting, as the rain created a serene, calming backdrop. It felt like the ultimate “wet-day retreat”- unhurried and wonderfully laid-back.
For lunch, Jacqui wowed us with a gourmet quiche, complete with gluten-free and vegan options that delighted everyone alongside 2 fresh salads.
Determined to make the most of the weather, we ventured out for a hike through the lush local landscape. The group welcomed the rain as they moved thoughtfully through the forest, practicing Dadirri—a sacred mindfulness tradition gifted by the Ngangikurungkurr people, an Aboriginal community. Rooted in deep listening and connection to nature, this practice invites stillness and presence. The quiet, interrupted only by the gentle sounds of the environment, created a grounding and deeply connective experience.
By the time we returned to the house, everyone felt renewed. We gathered around the fire, sharing stories and reflections as the rain continued to fall outside. Jacqui prepared lightly dusted tofu which were the star of the show in our poke bowls that evening, seriously bursting with flavour!
We ended the night with a truly special wind-down activity: a sound bowl healing led by one of our talented guests, Celest. As the soothing vibrations filled the room, we all felt a deep sense of calm and unity. It was the perfect way to reflect on the day’s theme of Beginner’s Mind, encouraging us to embrace change, release expectations, and stay present.
Day 3: Growth, Surfing, and Sunshine
Day three began with a slow and peaceful start. As the sun began to rise, we gathered quietly and walked in silence down to the beach. There was something grounding about moving together without words, each of us reflecting on the day ahead. Once we reached the beach, Mon guided us through a Wim Hof breath work session, encouraging us to connect deeply with our bodies and the theme of the day: Growth.
After breakfast and a little free time, we headed out for our next adventure - surfing! Nerves began to surface, but the message of the day was clear - growth happens beyond our comfort zone. Together, we embraced the challenge.
The legends at Surf Services Australia welcomed us warmly and guided us through our lesson. There were plenty of laughs, a few tumbles, and unforgettable moments of achievement as every guest rode a wave. To top it off, the sun made an appearance, adding an extra layer of joy to the experience.
Returning to the house, we buzzed with energy as Mon led a relaxing stretch and flow session, easing our muscles and re-centring us. After lunch, we enjoyed a laid-back afternoon by the pool. Later, we explored Currumbin, soaking in the golden afternoon light.
We ended the day with a Greek-inspired feast! Falafel, haloumi, chicken, homemade tzatziki, and a vibrant Greek salad. The spread was so delicious, not a single bite was left behind! We ended the evening with a meditation designed to soothe the nervous system, preparing us for a restful night.
Day 4: Farewell and Reflections of Gratitude
The final day began with a sunrise run towards Burleigh. With the sun shining and spirits soaring, it was the perfect start to our final day.
After the run, Saffron led us through a yoga flow that grounded and stretched our bodies, bringing a sense of calm and ease. Following breakfast, we gathered for a women’s circle, sharing reflections and gratitude for the bonds we had formed.
We wrapped up with refreshing açaí bowls by the pool from Salt Mill. As we said our goodbyes, we felt immense gratitude for the beautiful women who made this retreat so special.
Here’s to many more 4 days experiences like this!
